Carol Major


Carol Major was born in Scotland, later completed her education in Canada and now lives in the Blue Mountains. Her short stories and poems have been published in Canadian and Australian journals, and she has written extensively in the areas of health care, social policy, and urban design. Carol’s memoir, The Asparagus Wars was shortlisted for the 2020 International Beverly Prize for Literature (unpublished manuscript) and won the 2022 Alex Buzo Award, making her a shortlist contender for the 2022 Mark and Evette Moran NIB.

Carol continues to freelance and provides mentoring services to authors at Varuna where she has become known as the ‘book whisperer’ for her ability to clarify the writer’s vision and align it with craft.
