Charmaine Ledden-Lewis


Charmaine Ledden-Lewis is a proud Bundjalung woman, and an award-winning illustrator, living on Dharugand Gundungurra Country in the Blue Mountains, NSW. Using emotive and vibrant visual storytelling, Charmaine finds purpose in sharing culture and perspective through the many books she has collaborated on, exploring themes of Aboriginal lived experiences, truth telling, and celebration of Blak excellence. A Varuna board member, Charmaine regularly visits schools and communities to promote the benefits of art making and visual literacy, fostering connection, and working towards building a better future for generations to come.

Some of the books Charmaine has illustrated include Found by Bruce Pascoe, Born to Run by Cathy Freeman, 2023 CBCA notable Charlie’s Swim by Edith Wright, and most recently Ask Aunty; Seasons by Aunty Munya Andrews, shortlisted for the Wilderness Society’s 2024 Karajia Award.
