ASK AUNTY

  • Blue Mountains Cultural Centre Ampitheatre 30 Parke Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Recommended ages 1 - 8

Have you ever been excited for the first day of summer, only to be disappointed when it arrives cold and rainy? For First Nations People, the seasons don’t change when the calendar does. Instead, changes in plants, animals, water, weather and the stars mark the start of a new season.

In this session of reading and drawing, join local illustrator Charmaine Ledden-Lewis to develop a deeper connection with the land, waters and skies, drawn from her work on the Ask Aunty books with Aunty Munya Andrews. Get a sneak peak of Charmaine and Aunty Munya’s new book about bush survival skills, then contribute to a large, collaborative mural celebrating local Dharug seasons.

Kids will also enjoy a reading by Cheryl Leavy, author of Yanga Mother, a timely and poetic celebration of motherhood and First Nations languages.

This venue is wheelchair accessible, but please visit our Accessibility page or email hello@bluemountainswritersfestival.com.au if you have any other accessibility requirements.

Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival will have Auslan interpreters available for the Festival and will schedule them into sessions on request. Please complete the Auslan request question at checkout.
