Get Drawing with Deadly Duo Charmaine Ledden-Lewis and Dub Leffler

  • Katoomba Library 30 Parke Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Are you a kid who LOVES to draw? Would you like some tips about how to do better portraits of your family, friends, or even your pets?

This fun session for kids aged 7+ features two of Australia’s finest illustrators, Charmaine Ledden-Lewis, descendant of the Bundjalung people and illustrator of Found, Born to Run and Charlie's Swim and Dub Leffler, descendant of the Bigambul people of South-West Queensland, an author in his own right and one of Australia's most sought-after illustrators of children's literature, including Bindi with Kirli Saunders.

These multi-award-winning First Nations artists will talk about their art and the stories they help to tell, and will have fun doing spontaneous portraits during this lively session. Bring a drawing pad and pencils if you want to join in, or just come along to listen and learn.

Dub Leffler has written two books for children and illustrated over 25 titles including the award-winning picture books Once There was a Boy, Sorry Day with Coral Vass, and the much-lauded Bindi by Kirli Saunders. His latest offering is the beautiful Our Dreaming written by Kirli Saunders.

Charmaine Ledden-Lewis is a proud Bundjalung woman. Winner of the 2019 Kestin Indigenous Illustration Award, Charmaine illustrated the ABIA-shortlisted Found, written by acclaimed author Bruce Pascoe, and has gone on to produce illustrations for Cathy Freeman’s first children’s picture book Born to Run and Edith Wright’s Charlie’s Swim.

Supported by the Blue Mountains Branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, the Blue Mountains Library and Megalong Books.

This event is a free event, but we ask that you register your name and contact details so that we can manage room capacity. At least one carer should accompany children at this event: please include adults and child(ren) when you register.
