Loving the Queer Self

Join acclaimed poets Omar Sakr and Madison Godfrey as they read from their work and talk with Nevo Zisin about queerness, gender dis/euphoria, memory and desire in life and in literature.

Omar Sakr is the son of Arab and Turkish Muslim migrants and is the author of three poetry collections, including The Lost Arabs, which won the 2020 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for poetry, and a novel titled Son of Sin. His latest book, Non-Essential Work, was published this year.

Madison Godfrey lives on Whadjuk Noongar land and is a writer, editor and educator, and the author of Dress Rehearsals. Madison has performed poetry at the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury Festival.

Nevo Zisin is a storyteller, poet, TEDx speaker, educator on transgender topics, workshop facilitator and award-winning author of Finding Nevo and The Pronoun Lowdown. Their work has appeared in The Saturday Paper, NGV Magazine, Buzzfeed, SBS, ABC’s The Drum and the Morning Show.
