‘Women & Children could be Birch’s most beautiful and forthright book yet, one that speaks to the power of family to stand together in face of adversity.’ – The Guardian
Tony Birch is one of the most acclaimed novelists working in Australia today. A master of character and observation, his latest book, Women & Children, turns its attention to the love and courage between two sisters under the shadows of family violence. In this reflective session, Tony considers his latest work and his incredible back-catalogue, in conversation with ABC Radio National’s Kate Evans.
Tony Birch holds the Boisbouvier Chair in Australian Literature at Melbourne University. He is the author of four novels, five short fiction collections, and two poetry books. His most recent book is the novel Women & Children.
Kate Evans is the co-host (with Cassie McCullagh) of The Bookshelf on ABC Radio National. She regularly hosts interviews at writers' festivals. She has a PhD in history and too many books, and regrets neither.
