The Writing Zone Cabaret with Laneikka Denne, Kim Pham and Sarah Carroll, facilitated by Ellen O'Brien

Join outstanding young scriptwriters and actors Laneikka Denne (Feminazi; Belvoir), Sarah Carroll (Cherry; KXT) and screenwriter Kim Pham as they bring sass and sparkle to a wickedly funny afternoon cabaret in the Baroque Room. Hosted by poet Ellen O’Brien, this session is presented by The Writing Zone, a mentoring program for emerging writers from Western Sydney run by the Writing & Society Research Centre at Western Sydney University.

Following this session, Dr Kate Fagan, Director of the WSRC, will be available to discuss opportunities and writing programs at the Centre, including Masters and Doctoral studies in Literature and Creative Writing.

Kim Pham is an emerging writer and filmmaker from Western Sydney and is currently co-writing a screen adaptation of her sister Vivian Pham’s debut novel, The Coconut Children. In 2022 Kim won the Heyman Mentorship Award for her novel adaptation of her screenplay, Bird Hands Beaver a Fishmint Bouquet.

Laneikka Denne is a queer writer and actor from Western Sydney. Laneikka is the author of  Feminazi and the play Dead Skin, which won the SA State Theatre Company’s Young Playwrights Award. Laneikka has also worked as an actor, featuring in the films Puzzle Box and Salt Along the Tongue.

Sarah Carroll is an award-winning Pasifika queer and neurodiverse writer, performer and producer working on Dharug land. Sarah has two successful one-woman shows under her belt, Cherry (Sydney Fringe Award Winner and Hollywood Fringe Nominee) and Unkissed.

Ellen O’Brien is a Garigal/Walkeloa writer and editor living on Bidjigal land, and is Editor-in-Residence at the Faber Writing Academy at Allen & Unwin. Her poetry and prose have been published in the Sydney Review of Books, Meanjin, Overland, Kill Your Darlings and Cordite, and in Nangamay Mana Djurali: First Nations Australia LGBTQIA+ Poetry.


Festival Ticket Information

Tickets for this event are free, however, registration is required to manage room capacity. Please note, the Baroque Room is an 18+ Venue.
