Yanmawi Murugu – Dharug Language Workshop #2

  • Blue Mountains Cultural Centre 30 Parke Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Revitalising Dharug language is fun! In this workshop with Richard Torning, you will discover the rich history of our language heroes, learning about Dharug language consonant and vowel sounds, simple words, and greetings, and how language connects to Country.

The workshop provides a place for all ages to listen and speak – and walk away with a deeper understanding of the need to revitalise Aboriginal languages.

Richard Torning is a descendant of two famous Dharug trackers: Naamud (Liverpool) and Marri Marri (Mulgoa). Rick is in a generation that has some known ancestral links back to the late 1800s. Rick’s hobbies, apart from teaching the revitalised Dharug language, include being the editor of the NSW Junior Chess League magazine, developing a new board game for Aboriginal communities, and historical research.
