Join the Arts Law Centre of Australia for an overview of Australian defamation law and recent cases, as well as tips on how to balance defamation risk and expression as a writer in Australia.
Whether you are a fiction or non-fiction writer, defamation can be an issue if you choose to base your writing on real people. This session will take you through what to look out for and how you can deal with defamation risks.
Arts Law is a national community legal centre for the arts with a mission to empower creators through the law, and regularly advises writers on defamation and other legal issues.
Join Anna Spies (a lawyer, former barrister and reader) and Katherine Giles (a lawyer and reader) from Arts Law as they discuss defamation law in a practical and easy-to-understand way.
The Cultural Centre is wheelchair accessible, but please email hello@bluemountainswritersfestival.com.au if you have any other accessibility requirements.
Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival will have Auslan interpreters available for the Festival and will schedule them into sessions on request. Please complete the Auslan request question at checkout.
