EDITING YOUR OWN WORK with Peter Polites

  • Multipurpose Room, Blue Mountains Cultural Centre 30 Parke Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Ernest Hemingway once said writing is rewriting. He understood that while writing can be a truly demanding process, it’s the editing of your work that can be hardest of all.

In this workshop with award-winning novelist Peter Polites, you’ll discover key strategies for editing your own work. You’ll unpack the use of grammar in your work, explore techniques for editing structure, and hone your editing skills using a mix of hands-on practice during the workshop, as well as worksheets to take home.

Please bring in a brief amount of your prose to work on.

Peter Polites is a novelist. He has written two queer noirs, Down the Hume and The Pillars, which won the 2020 NSW Premier's Multicultural Literary Award. He also won the 2020 Woollahra Digital Literature Prize for Fiction. In 2021 he was the ACT Writer in Residence at UNSW Canberra.

The Cultural Centre is wheelchair accessible, but please email hello@bluemountainswritersfestival.com.au if you have any other accessibility requirements.

Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival will have Auslan interpreters available for the Festival and will schedule them into sessions on request. Please complete the Auslan request question at checkout.
