All Roads Lead to Baghdad: Richard Fidler in Conversation with James Valentine

  • Blue Mountains Cultural Centre 30 Parke Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Hear from two of the ABC’s most-loved broadcasters, Richard Fidler and James Valentine as they follow the path of the book-obsessed and travel-mad medieval diplomats, traders and scientists who left the cosmopolitan pleasures of ancient Baghdad in search of knowledge. Those who returned brought back realistic and fantastical accounts of the world during Islam’s fabled Golden Age.

Writer-broadcaster Richard Fidler is the author of the bestselling books The Golden Maze and Ghost Empire, and co-author of the bestselling Saga Land with Kári Gíslason. Richard presents 'Conversations', an in-depth, up-close-and-personal interview program, which is broadcast across Australia on ABC Radio and podcast all over the world to millions of listeners. His most recent book, The Book of Roads and Kingdoms, was published in 2022.

James Valentine is a musician and ABC radio presenter, known for being a movie reviewer on Showtime, a reporter and commentator on Sunrise, It Takes Two, Midday, Good Morning Australia and TVTV. James has also featured as the narrator of Lifestyle Channel’s, Come Dine With Me Australia as well as the writer of regular columns for publications including The Australian.
