Rational, stubborn hope isn’t just positive thinking. Join James Valentine for a panel discussion with climate advocates Clive Hamilton and Claire O’Rourke and David King, exploring climate activism and the positive pathways towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Clive Hamilton is an Australian author and academic. His influential books include Silent Invasion, Growth Fetish, Requiem for a Species: Why We Resist the Truth About Climate Change and Defiant Earth: The Fate of Humans in the Anthropocene. For 14 years he was the executive director of The Australia Institute, a think tank he founded.

Claire O’Rourke is an author, environmentalist and advocate who has spent two decades working in journalism, communications and campaigns around the world. She is currently working as Australia Program Director at The Sunrise Project. Her first book, Together We Can, a collection of stories about people taking climate change action, was published last year.

David King, a member of the Gundungurra Aboriginal Heritage Association (GAHAI) and a Gully Traditional Owner (GTO), is a passionate advocate for Indigenous Culture and land management. He has been awarded titles for the BMCC NAIDOC Recognition Award, Hard Yakka, Bushcare Legend and winner of the Blue Mountains Stories: A Year Like No Other with Gunai Dhaura Mulanga about bushfires in the Blue Mountains.

James Valentine is a musician and ABC radio presenter, known for being a movie reviewer on Showtime, a reporter and commentator on Sunrise, It Takes Two, Midday, Good Morning Australia and TVTV. James has also featured as the narrator of Lifestyle Channel’s Come Dine With Me Australia and has written regular columns for publications including The Australian.
