UNDERNEATH THE POETREE A Lyric Writing Workshop

  • Workshop Room, Blue Mountains Cultural Centre 30 Parke Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Lyrics. Raps. Prose. Poetry. We divide and label these forms of writing, but ultimately they're all branches on the same tree of storytelling and self-expression.

In this workshop with award-winning artist, poet and songwriter Nick Solo, you’ll explore the Venn diagram between these forms and the creative processes involved in their creation. You’ll explore the boundaries between these forms as well as strategies for writing within them.

Build confidence and learn alongside one another while garnering advice and tricks of the trade from an artist and writer whose work has been hopscotching across lyrics, rap, prose and poetry for over and a decade a half.

Whether you're a first timer or an experienced lyricist, we can all benefit from spending some time together beneath the poetree.

Nick Solo is an artist, poet and songwriter best known for his work as the frontman of Hip Hop outfit Horrorshow, with a reputation as one of the country's premier lyricists whose words are regularly seen tattooed on the skin of the loyal supporters that make up his fanbase. In addition to his musical output, Nick is an experienced poetry and writing workshop facilitator committed to a journey of art making, storytelling and community building.

The Cultural Centre is wheelchair accessible, but please email hello@bluemountainswritersfestival.com.au if you have any other accessibility requirements.
