Varuna’s Poetry Circle

  • The Carrington Hotel 15-47 Katoomba Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

Join Varuna’s poetry circle, an annual institution that’s been running for more than 30 years. Share your own poem or simply listen to others in this celebration of community and words. This year’s event features Blue Mountains poet Willo Drummond reading from her recent collection Moon Wrasse, and will be facilitated by Mark O’Flynn.

Note: If you wish to read, please arrive early to put your name on ‘the list’, as only the first 20 names can be guaranteed a spot. Please also limit your reading to two minutes.

Willo Drummond is a poet who lives and writes on Dharug and Gundungurra land. She was a runner-up in the Tom Collins Poetry Prize (2021), and was shortlisted for the Val Vallis Award (2022). Her debut poetry collection, Moon Wrasse, was published earlier this year.

Mark O’Flynn is a poet and author known for his novel, The Last Days of Ava Langdon, which was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award in 2017, and his collection of short stories, Dental Tourism. Mark had two collections of poems released last year: Undercoat and Einstein’s Brain.
