Shattering the Silence: Nardi Simpson with Tony Birch

  • The Carrington Hotel 15-47 Katoomba Street Katoomba, NSW, 2780 Australia (map)

What happens when a century of silence is shattered forever? Prepare to be spellbound as Yuwaalaraay writer, musician and composer, Nardi Simpson discusses her exquisite debut novel, Song of the Crocodile, with award-winning First Nations author, Tony Birch (White Girl, Common People, Ghost River). A novel full of music and Yuwaalaraay language that shows us that the land will sustain us all if only we could listen to it.

Nardi Simpson is a Yuwaalaraay writer, musician, composer and educator from North West NSW freshwater plains. A founding member of Indigenous folk duo Stiff Gins, Nardi has been performing nationally and internationally for 20 years.

Tony Birch is the author of three novels: the bestselling The White Girl, winner of the 2020 NSW Premier's Award for Indigenous Writing, and shortlisted for the 2020 Miles Franklin Literary Prize; Ghost River, winner of the 2016 Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Indigenous Writing; and Blood, which was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award in 2012.
